Roone Arledge served a key role in forming the news and sports experience that we see today. He served as president of both ABC Sports and ABC News and while serving in this role he created numerous of famous shows that we know today. For example he pioneered sports broadcasting by making hit shows like Monday Night Football and Wide World of Sports. This brought sports into the prime time slot of television it also started the trend of looking deep into the athlete’s life to see them as who they truly are. He revolutionized the news industry by creating the first nighttime news program Nightline which was a 90 minute long program devoted to one key issue at the time and looking at both sides of the issue. He is credited with over 37 Emmy awards for his work in the television industry one of which was the first ever lifetime achievement award. Without Mr. Arledge we would not have the level TV entertainment that we have today.
